Over 100 Ukrainian media workers killed fighting at the front

Original version ·

The toll of the war is measured in more than just territory or infrastructure; it is measured in the silence of those who once held the pen.

When the full-scale invasion started, the line between reporting the news and making it blurred for many. According to the IMI, 134 media workers have died since 2022. 105 of those people were soldiers—journalists, producers, and photographers who swapped their cameras for rifles.

We talk a lot about the death of media freedom, but we forget the faces. These were the people who documented our history before deciding they needed to defend it. They didn't just cover the war; they lived it from the trenches.

A profession that usually values standing on the sidelines has seen an entire generation of its best talent disappear into the ranks of the Defense Forces.

History is being written in blood, and unfortunately, the chroniclers are the ones paying the highest price.
